BACKGROUND

Where did this archive come from? This archive is the product of a Drama Queens event that engaged with the Freedom Dreams of Ghanaian Feminists via meditation, discussion, memory work, and creative expression.
How do Freedom Dreaming and Radical Imagination link to Ghanaian Feminists and Drama Queens’s (DQ's) work? The work of DQ is grounded in imagining an alternative world. DQ asks us to question the oppressive systems that exist and to use art as a means of expressing alternative possibilities.
What is Drama Queens? Drama Queens (DQ) is a Feminist, Pan-African Non-Profit Organization based in Accra, Ghana. DQ’s work revolves around “challenging the status quo, breaking barriers, and centering 'herstories' through theatre and other forms of art”. Learn more at https://www.instagram.com/dramaqueensgh/
What is Freedom Dreaming and Radical Imagination? Freedom Dreaming and Radical Imagination are long-standing traditions in Black and African Feminist struggles against cis-heteropatriarchal white supremacy. It pushes us to imagine what a future without oppression literally looks and feels like - from our systems of accountability to our health structures. By doing this, we are able to question the structures that exist, create specific goals for our resistance, and move with hope.
What is included in this archive? This archive compiles the various artworks, creative expression, questions, quotes, discussions, and resources that were born out of this event. It also offers an opportunity for others to contribute to growing this archive by making submissions. Soon, this archive will hold the works and ideas of people beyond the DQ event.
What is the purpose of the archive? The mainstream and accessible resources that exist surrounding Freedom Dreaming and Radical Imagination are often focused on the experiences of Black people in the diaspora, and especially the Global North. This archive asserts the important role of Ghanaian and African Feminists in visualizing our future - for it is the universal collective that holds the keys to our liberation. We decided to create an archive because it offered an opportunity to build an evolving, public, and collective space - rooting the fact that Freedom Dreaming is forever an intergenerational, community project.
